Makoto Kobayashi - Giant Robo Designs
1981. My dad had owned his comic store for 3 years. He literally slept in the back room/office. Some days he would make less than $5. But for his third anniversary he was able to get Jack “The King” Kirby as a guest.
How much did Jack charge for an appearance?
Zip. Zilch. Nada. Only the right to sell his sketches and original art. (Without directly calling anyone out, we’ve had a few guests that charged us for the appearance. Jack Kirby, you are not)
But there was one thing Jack’s wife asked for.
A ride. She did not allow Jack to drive. Because he would day-dream so intensely that the car would literally cruise right off the road. So we picked him up and dropped him off. During which he of course demanded that we take a tour of his house and studio. If I didn’t hear it directly from my father, I’d say that story was made up.
This is quite possibly one of the best stories I’ve ever heard, and I’m not just saying that because I shop at Geoffrey’s Comics.
EXCERPTS >|< Louella Gallagher, Knife-Thrower (1950)
A series of gif excerpted from a short movie of 1950, in which the knife thrower Louella Gallagher performs with her two daughters: Connie Ann of 5 years and Colleena Sue 2 and 1/2. The three Gallagher are showing in Texas and the news appears in a newsreel of the time.
If still alive, today Connie and Sue should have approximately 60 years. It would be really interesting to hear their point of view on their childhood.

Se ancora vive, oggi Connie and Sue dovrebbero avere all’incirca 60 anni. Sarebbe davvero interessante conoscere il loro punto di vista sulla loro infanzia.
